Navy – Botanical Symphony

Category: Tag:

Navy Strength Gin
In the 18th century, when the Royal Navy sailed the oceans for months at a time, gin was part of the ship’s supplies. To ensure it hadn’t been watered down, officers used a clever test: they poured a little gin onto gunpowder and tried to light it. If it ignited, the alcohol content was high enough—around 57% ABV—and therefore “navy proof.”

After fading into obscurity for decades, Navy Strength was rediscovered in the 1990s and became a cult favorite among bartenders. Its higher strength amplifies the botanicals’ aromas and keeps the gin’s character intact, even in complex or spice-forward cocktails like bold Martinis, robust Negronis, and aromatic punches. It’s the choice for those seeking a powerful sip that leaves a lasting impression.

Tasting Notes

The Nose
Intense and crystalline. Bold citrus zest leads the way, supported by aromatic herbs, delicate florals, and a deeper botanical complexity heightened by the higher proof.

The Palate
Vibrant and powerful, yet harmonious. The elevated strength amplifies the freshness, wraps the palate in warm spice, and brings out a layered depth of flavor.

The Finish
Long and persistent. Bright citrus lingers, gradually softening into a smooth, rounded warmth that reflects both strength and finesse.

Description

Navy Gin was born in 2024 from the idea of exploring its potential in new and versatile ways: we wanted to create the perfect gin for any cocktail, enhancing every combination in which it is used. Compared to the classic London Dry, it amplifies the taste and aroma of the botanicals, delivering a rich and enveloping experience. A captivating product, designed for those who are not afraid to dare.

Botanicals:

  • Juniper: the heart of the gin, fresh and resinous, classic and unmistakable.
  • Licorice: adds depth and a natural sweetness.
  • Lemon & Cedar Peel: bring bright, citrusy freshness.
  • Sichuan Pepper: a subtle spice that surprises the palate.
  • Bitter Orange & Orange Blossom: a harmonious blend of floral and slightly bitter notes.
  • Rosehip: a delicate, fruity touch with a slight tang.
  • Coriander: balances everything with freshness and lightness.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose, it opens with a symphony of citrus and floral notes, followed by the fresh spiciness of pepper and coriander. On the palate, the gin reveals an elegant balance between bitterness and natural sweetness, finishing with a harmonious and persistent aftertaste.
